Used to seeing all the latest beauty products in a blogger’s beauty haul?

Well this one’s a bit different – I’m prepping for summer early this year. Just because the sun’s not shining and you’re still wearing your winter boots, doesn’t mean your feet don’t need a touch of TLC.

This is a new brand for me – but if you’re looking for something that will care for your feet (even after a winter of boots) then Carnation Footcare is a great brand to try.

Beauty Wishlist

Beauty Wishlist

My fashion and beauty wishlists are never-ending, you should see my asos.com saved items. However, I have managed to narrow down my top three beauty must haves:

Micellar water was THE skin must have product at the end of 2015. You couldn’t pick up a magazine or read a beauty blog without rave reviews… and rightly so, it’s a pretty great product. My personal favourite is Bioderma Sensibio H2O – it’s great for my sensitive skin, easy to use, not too perfumed and I just found out it also comes in a handy reverse pump bottle too! I discovered this product years ago while in France, but it is now widely available in the UK. Unfortunately my stocks are getting pretty low… roll on payday!

I’m loving my new Clinique Pop Lip Colour and Primer (Fab Pop) which is a baby pink. I would have never chosen this shade for myself and received it as a Christmas present. Now I have to admit that mother knows best, as this present from my mum is great. I’ve received lots of compliments on the shade and I think it helps give my skin a bit more warmth (bonus when you are pretty much translucent). For SS16 I’m considering trying an even bolder pink – I like this watermelon shade as it has the required colour without being too much of a ‘girly’ pink. Plus the Topshop price means if it goes horribly wrong I haven’t spent a months wages on a disaster makeup trend.

For a self-confessed beauty junkie I feel this is a pretty surprising confession: I’ve never tried mineral make up. I’ve always been a bit sceptical, mainly because I find it hard to stray from my Clinique foundation – happy to vary the products on top but my base has been the same for years. However, these starter sets are actually very economical and give a great feel for the brand and the product without the investment of all the products before you are 100% happy they are for you… maybe 2016 is the year I vary my makeup base!

Are any of these on your wish list – or do you know a product I MUST try? Lets carry on the conversation in the comments below or via the medium of social media…

Polyvore

Working with all things digital – especially social media, I’m always on the look out for something new or in this case something I’ve never come across before.

I found Polyvore a few days a go and it’s now safe to say I’m obsessed. Opps.

So what actually is Polyvore?

Polyvore is a new way to discover and shop for things you love in fashion, beauty and home decor.

What do you do?

You can create your own ‘sets’ and ‘collections’, like items and more importantly find your next favourite purchase!

It’s effectively a new way to design, think Pinterest, but instead of a board – you actually create your own digital collage – controlling the words, products, colours and designs.

The only downside is it’s an American site so the majority of products are from American brands too – but don’t worry you can find some great brands you’ve never shopped with and they do have a nice selection of well-known sites for the British market. ASOS and Not on the High Street anyone?

Beauty MUST have

There are a few products that I can’t live without – well I could but I would be very grumpy.

One of those miracle products is the utterly fantastic Clinique Moisture Surge. This pink gel is available as a few different products now the range has expanded, but I would always stick with my favourite…

Add to your routine:

  • Use as a super rich mask, apply slightly more than you would for a daily moisturise and leave on overnight – wake up to the softest skin ever
  • Use when traveling – I will not get on a plane without this. Keeping your self hydrated on long or short flights is important and your skin is part of that. Apply 15-mins before landing for a fresh face when you touch down!
  • Make this your winter barrier – with the elements attacking in the winter months your skin can take the brunt and needs a little extra tlc. Add this into your routine at least weekly to keep your skin happy and healthy.
  • Do you sometimes get dry patches? Then reach for this one – works quickly and calms the skin

January nail inspiration

I’ve been looking for some new year nail inspiration to replace my New Year’s teal mani-pedi and came up trumps with a browse through Essie Polish’s Instagram:

I’ve fallen in love with their awesome rosy-purple colour: Angora Cardi.

This colour is the perfect match for this time of year, a berry hue without being to ‘pink’ as January can get pretty bleak it’s nice to add a drop of colour without too much punch.

I tend to look for something with a darker base note to balance out my outfit, plus now I know what to spend my Boots Christmas gift card on!

The Kit

With each new purchase and discovery I am becoming more and more of a beauty product junkie… cue adorable bear hiding behind hands emoji. I have a pretty solid, overly large shoe collection (56 pairs on last count, post recent clear out), which I continue to add too. Although, realistically things have cooled down in the shoe department – It may be due to the fact I no longer work in a shoe shop that I have been able to rid my mind of the daily thought of the act of purchasing shoes. However, while this may be a great achievement and literal shoe weight off my wardrobe, this does leave a nice hoarding shape gap in my life… welcome to my ever changing makeup bag or for all intents and purposes ‘The Kit’.

The Kit. 2015

The Kit. 2015

Firstly, my make up bag. I have many, many, many make up bags – some quirky and awesome, others freebies that came with make up sets. But unfortunately most of them are either too small to cart my extensive make up and beauty products around with me. For the general make up bag in handbag they are great, but for the more substantial over-nighter I needed something shiny and new… not lined with specks of mascara and the eyeshadow explosions. I stumbled upon my blue and white stripy beauty bag in Boots (£8.00), I was drawn to the splash of fresh colour with the coral zip and the simple design. The range also includes a Stripy Clam Bag (£12.00), a Stripy Cosmetics Purse (£5.00), and a Stripy Vanity Bag (£10.00).

Now I’ve sorted an awesome place to stash all my beauty hauls, here are my favourite products in my make up kit right now…

The Body ShoP Vitamin e AQUA BOost Sorbet

It’s that time honoured idea – always start with a good base. I love this hydrating face cream, its so kind to sensitive skin and genuinely gives a ‘boost’ of moisture. Plus it’s a cheeper alternative to my all-time favourite beauty splurge: Clinique Moisture Surge tub. (The Body Shop // £12.00)

Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation

Ah this is my new love. I have been a strictly Clinique foundation (anti-blemish solutions) girl for as long as I can remember. I have dabbled with others but was always left disappointed, so as I have sensitive and just sometimes down right annoying skin I opted for what I knew best. Always starting off with a high-end, good base has always been my way with make up – then you can add whatever high-street trend you want on top! But this little jar has swayed me. Yes I still mix it with my Clinique, but I like the shimmer effect in this that gives a natural healthy glow, without going too sparkly. (Revlon // £12.99)

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

This is a god send of a brush, if you’re like me and one day your face is super dry, the next more oily/combination and you just don’t know which way is up. This brush is great for blending and you use a lot less product with it – it’s very hard to achieve that ‘caked effect’ with this brush, phew! (Real Techniques // £9.99)

* Don’t forget to keep your brushes clean – check out how with the ‘Bath time for your brushes’ post

No7 Perfectly Bronzed Bronzing Pearls

As I explained in my ‘Summer Beaty: Look 01’ post, I don’t like the glittery bronze effect on my skin – so these bronzing pearls strike a nice balance between glow and shimmer for my pale skin tone. (No7 // £9.95)

The Body shop Brushes

Now most of my brushes are actually from The Body Shop. They are really, very good and cruelty free. Sorted. The brush pictured is their Face & Body Brush. (The Body Shop // £16.00)

Revolution Ultra Professional Eyeshadow Palette

I’m new to the Revolution brand but am sold. This ‘Beyond Flawless’ palette is basically all kinds of awesome. Go forth. Find a palette to suit you. Spend hours working out your new looks. Thank me later. (Revolution // £8.00)

Mac Eye shadow

This is a little pot of gold – quite literally. This mac eye shadow was a birthday gift and I haven’t put it down since… so now i’m almost out, sob – at least a refill is only a tenner. The colour is great blended for everyday or built up with other shadows for a bit more evening glamour! (Mac // £13.00)

Benefit They’re Real Eye Liner (in all new beyond Purple)

I was a bit dubious at first, heading for a deep purple hue rather than black for my eyeliner. Although their AccuFlex™ tip makes application so easy that I kinda forgot all about the colour and just worked on perfecting the flicks. Shall definately be purchasing in black now too!! Available in the new beyond green, beyond purple, beyond blue, and beyond brown hues from July 2015. The brand are also releasing They’re Real! mascara, in beyond brown and beyond blue. (Benefit // £18.50)

SEVENTEEN All Doll’d Up

This one has been part of the ‘war paint’ for a while. A go to for long, defined lashes and at high street prices. (Seventeen // £4.99)

Natural Collection Lip Lines Pencil

This great brand was my first go to for make-up. Way back when in the days of pocket money – starting on the nail polish and moving onto mascara… ah the good old days! Check out their range of brand strong neutrals for your lips, for a good all day look and a great base for a pop of colour if you fancy going a bit more bold. (Natural Collection // £1.99)

Clinique Chubby Stick

This is one of my favourite things… I don’t really know why but I have developed a nice collection of Chubby Sticks. I would be lost without at least one in my handbag/makeup bag! (Clinique // £17.00)

Lush Lip Service Balm

And finally, I adore this citrusy (thanks to the tangerine oil and limonene!) lip balm. Such a quick, easy and natural way to soft, kissable lips. This little tub contains a blend of beeswax, cocoa butter, fair trade shea butter and apricot kernel oil to lock in all that lovely moisture. (Lush // £5.75)

Are you a fan of any of my must haves? Or do you know something I need to try? As always, let me know on here or via any creative social mediating you can think of!

Bath time for your brushes

Everyone who uses make-up brushes is guilty of this one – even just once: Can you remember the last time you cleaned your make-up brushes?

Yeah, I was a bit ummm with my answer too – oops.

But not to worry below is my quick, easy and cheep guide to cleaning your make-up brushes.

You may be thinking whyyyyy, I just don’t have the time – I spend long enough doing my make-up as it is but cleaning your brushes is a must. They are world class at harbouring bacteria from your face, which multiplies and then you put make-up on the next day, spreading the previous bacteria back onto your face and harbouring more – it’s a never ending cycle! Worst of all, this can lead to break outs, so if you have problematic or sensitive skin, cleaning your brushes more regularly may really help you out. You will also use less product, as when your brushes aren’t clogged up with make-up your foundation, for example, will glide on more easily.

Bonus all round.

How to: Clean your make-up brushes
Tools
  • Your make-up brushes
  • Running warm water
  • Soap / Shampoo
  • Your hand
  • Small towel
  • A glass or brush stand
Method

Firstly gather your make-up brushes and set your self up. I normally place a small towel next to the sink to lay the brushes on.

Grab your soap or shampoo – use whatever is best for you. Basically you want to end up with bacteria free, soft bristles so keep this in mind when choosing! I know that Jonhson’s baby products are popular as they are very gentle. Recently I have been using Assie’s Miracle Moist Shampoo as it is one I use in the summer when my hair gets dried out from too much sun, sea or chlorine and needs that extra boost. This means I always have it lying around even if I’m not necessarily using it on my hair at the time. I find the moisture boost helps keep my brushes nice and soft.

Now you have your tools in place, select your first brush, place it under running warm water to get it wet. Next, squeeze some soap / shampoo into the palm of your hand, then move your brush in circular motions in the palm of your hand to get it nice and sudsy!

Note: if you do this in the palm of your hand you should be more gentle, you don’t want to hurt your hand or the brush!

Now its time to rinse, if your brush still isn’t clean, repeat the previous steps until the water runs clear. Remember to turn the tap off between steps, when you’re not using the water – be kind to the planet and don’t use more than you need.

Squeeze any excess water from the bristles, and reshape – then lay back down on your towel and move onto your next brush.

Once I’m done, I like to make sure I have squeezed as much water as I can from the brushes and that they are back in the right shape. Then I place them, bristles up, into a glass so they dry naturally and quickly.

Note: If your brushes aren’t dry when you next need them – use something else, clean hands or a sponge one day won’t hurt! NEVER use your hair dryer on your brushes – the bristles weren’t built for that and the heat will damage them to the point you probably won’t want to use them again!

Now run and fetch those pesky brushes…

Strong Hair Selfie Game!?

Just sharing today’s hair look…

This is never what I look like once I’ve left the house – thanks British weather, but today my hair is not the dead straight strawberry blonde I’m used to:

Casual wave look achieved through a previous day’s hair wash (Aussie Luscious Long Shampoo & Conditioner), a night spent in two french plaits, an embarrassing encounter with a delivery man with bed hair plaits, a steamy shower, a hairdryer for those pesky whispy bits, and finally a de-plait, an upside down shake, into a hair tousle and hairspray.

The result: it genuinely looks like my hair has ever so slightly more volume than any other damn day…

Statement Jewels

Statement Ring. 2015

I have too much jewellery. I do, I admit it. I never get round to wearing everything, having said this when you forget about a piece and find it again – its like you’ve been shopping all over again… not that this stops me actually shopping for that long. It’s the thought that counts right?

In a recent dig around in the Narnia that is my jewellery box, I found this statement beauty.

This ring was an impulse buy, the ASOS sale got to me. I bought two rings that day – both fantastically over the top. The other quite possibly even more so… shockingly.

Statement Ring. 2015

Statement Ring. 2015

Buying rings online can definitely be a big hit and miss sometimes. ‘One size’ is just asking for trouble – how is that even possible with a non-adjustable ring?! Anyway, this statement piece just fitted my pinkie finger. This wasn’t the intended finger by any means but surprisingly it is more practical there.

It seems silly but effectively having it ‘out of the way’ on a finger you don’t use too much in your day-to-day life, is a great way to make a statement and still be able to type or drive.

This ring soon became one of my firm favourites, especially on a chipping nail polish day – as really, no one will be looking at your nails when you’re dragging this beauty around on your hand!
